Last year, SAFEHOME provided nearly 18,000 nights of safety for women and children fleeing violent homes.
All services are available in English and Spanish. Other language translation provided as needed. SAFEHOME serves the entire Kansas City metro area with emphasis in Johnson and Miami Counties in Kansas. All services free of charge and confidential.
SAFEHOME’s shelter offers a confidential, safe, and healing atmosphere for women and children to love, gain inner strength, build self-esteem, and heal. Every year, more than 350 women and children find safety, help, and hope at SAFEHOME’s shelter.
SAFEHOME’s 24-hour crisis hotline is always available to provide a listening ear, help with safety planning, and community resources. Clickherefor more information.
Licensed therapists provide individual counseling for adults and children. Support groups are offered for adults and teens on a variety of special interest topics.
Advocates offer help to victims of domestic violence in health care settings such as hospitals and medical clinics. SAFEHOME trains more than 2,000 medical professionals each year to recognize and respond to victims of domestic violence. All five Johnson County hospitals are designated Safe Place Hospitals.
Children receive supportive services for school, health care, and daily needs. SAFEHOME’s licensed children and family therapists are skilled in working with children exposed to or affected by family violence.
Rent assistance and supportive services are available to families who transition to independent living.
Advocates assist clients with budgeting and financial management individually and in structured classes.
The District Court Advocacy Program provides assistance to victims at the district court. SAFEHOME is the only domestic violence agency in the KC metro area or in Kansas to have a full-time attorney on staff.
