“The SAFEHOME advocate I met at the hospital saved my life. I didn’t know I had the option of leaving. I thought I was going to die.” - Cindy
SAFEHOME’s BridgeSPAN Program also offers support for victims of domestic violence in the health care setting. A BridgeSPAN staff member or volunteer will arrive within 30 minutes of a request from any of the five Johnson County hospitals (Menorah Medical Center, Olathe Medical Center, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, Shawnee Mission Medical Center and St. Luke’s South), as well as outpatient clinics and doctor’s offices.
The services provided by BridgeSPAN include:
- Safe and confidential crisis intervention
- Shelter admission
- Emotional support
- Domestic violence education
- Safety planning
- Referral to community resources
BridgeSPAN (Safe Patient Advocacy Network) also helps train hospital medical staff to recognize signs of domestic violence and be ready to respond to victims.
