SAFEHOME is Johnson County’s only provider of comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and partner abuse. Services include a 60 bed, residential, “safe” shelter for battered women and their children, 24-hour crisis line, counseling for women, children and men, and advocacy in the legal, medical, housing, and employment areas.
Volunteers grace every area of this agency in addition to planning the agency’s special events. This internship (unpaid) affords the opportunity to learn and experience various aspects of Volunteer Management along with special event planning of a non-profit in a professional atmosphere from a seasoned Volunteer Manager. Additionally, Interns will learn about the importance of episodic volunteers, and participate in the activities listed below.
The following list includes areas where the intern will gain hands-on experience. This may not be comprehensive, and other responsibilities may arise in the course of the internship related to volunteerism.

SAFEHOME’s administrative office opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m. Volunteer groups often come in the early evening, or a Saturday or Sunday morning. Need to commit to 10-15 hours weekly.
