SAFEHOME seeks an experienced, full-time Chief Financial Officer to oversee all aspects of the agency’s accounting procedures and grant finances.
The Chief Financial Officer reports directly to the President/CEO and is a member of the agency’s Leadership Team. The Chief Financial Officer works closely with the President/CEO to develop and manage the agency’s $3.5 million annual operating budget.
Founded in 1980, SAFEHOME is proud of its 37-year history as a provider of domestic violence shelter and services to Johnson County, Miami County, and the Kansas City metro area. Services include shelter, counseling, advocacy, court and legal assistance, transitional housing, economic advocacy, and education/prevention. 1. Oversee all aspects of the agency’s accounting procedures, ensuring the system is in
compliance with generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP), as well as in
accordance with current governmental standards.
a. Maintain general ledgers on accrual basis.
b. Provide monthly financial position and cash flow reports to staff and Board.
c. Oversee completion of external and internal audits; Form 990, Form 5500, Kansas State annual report, and 1099s.
d. Oversee preparation of annual operating budget.
e. Complete monthly reconciliation of the agency’s bank and investment accounts.
2. Oversee accounting of agency’s grants funding.
a. Communicate regularly with Grants Department to maintain and ensure the
agency meets all grant budget requirements.
b. Prepare, revise and maintain budgets for all grant funding.
c. Prepare and submit grant reimbursement requests.
3. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
a. Oversee daily electronic deposit and accurate recording in Quickbooks Pro.
b. Oversee processing of semi-monthly payroll by payroll provider.
c. Ensure timely and accurate payment of agency’s accounts payable.
4. Serve as a member of the Leadership Team, and provide information and
guidance on matters related to finance, payroll and grant funding.
5. Serve as staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee, including scheduling and leading quarterly committee meetings and providing monthly financial reports.
6. Meet regularly with President/CEO to review agency’s financial position.
7. Oversee annual renewal of agency’s insurance coverage (Liability, Directors and Officers, Workers Compensation, etc.) and provide ongoing administration of the policies.
The successful candidate will have at least three years of proven experience in a senior accounting position, preferably in a non-profit setting. QuickBooks Pro experience and mastery is required. The candidate will have proven hands-on experience with accounting practices and procedures, federal grant reporting, fund accounting and spreadsheet skills. Experience with government and private grant funding is highly desirable.
Must be a self-starter who can work well with limited direction/supervision. Must be able to translate financial information to non-financial individuals (staff and Board members). Strong organizational skills. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
